Job Duties of a Medical Transcriptionist
A medical transcriptionist listens to voice recordings made by physicians and records everything verbatim into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative materials. Usually, a medical transcriptionist keys the text into a personal computer or word processor.

In order to work in the medical transcription field, you must be able to understand and accurately transcribe medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic procedures. A medical transcriptionist must also have a basic understanding of pharmacology and treatment assessments.
In the medical transcription field, a transcriptionist must also be able to translate medical terminology and expand abbreviations into their full-length forms.

This type of program is offered by many vocational schools, community colleges, and online universities.Most employers search for medical transcriptionists who have completed an associate's degree or certification program that includes course work in anatomy, medical terminology, and legal issues relating to healthcare documents. You should also have good English grammar and punctuation skills, as well as be proficient with personal computers and word processing software.
