We live in a world of extreme medical expectations. Not only do we want to stay forever young, healthy, and happy, but we have come to expect it. Lucky for many of us, new scientific technology and medical science research has proven to meet a large portion of these expectations. In fact, when you think about artificial ligaments, organ replacements, and tissue regenerations, coupled with the thousands of plastic surgery choices - face lifts, breast implants, scar tissue removal, hair regrowth, etc., you come to realize that fulfilling a career in medicine might be an excellent way to enjoy a long-lasting, rewarding work life.
Recent Medical Science Discoveries
For decades, debates have continued over the use and promise of stem cells and stem cell research. However, stem cells have actually been used for almost 20 years in bone-marrow transplants and immune cell disorders. Today, stem cells are being used to rebuild hearts, engineer eyes, skin, and organs, and probably most importantly, boosting the brain.Other amazing breakthroughs in medical science include artificial retinas, engineered bladders, cartilage growth and repair, heart implants, prosthetics, gene therapy, and cosmetic enhancement, to name a select few. With so many new advancements available and so many more medical science technologies to come in the very near future, it is easy to understand why a career in medicine could be the perfect fit for you.
It goes without saying that these lifesaving technologies don't come cheap and that ethical issues in biotechnology and healthcare abound. However, it is only by looking to the past and realizing how far we have come that we can get a glimpse of what might be possible in our medical science future. And a career in medicine just might allow you to discover those long awaited technological triumphs that we've all come to desire and expect.
