Nursing a Desire to Travel

By

The Need for New Nurses

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be more jobs created for nurses than in any other field until 2012. And, because there are already substantial shortages of qualified nurses, nursing schools in cities around the country are working hard to recruit new students to fill jobs. And the need for nurses goes beyond just encouraging attendance in nursing school.

Creative Staffing for Nurses

Working in your local hospital, emergency room or doctor's office isn't the only career opportunity available to nurses who have successfully completed nursing school. In fact, because the need for qualified nursing school graduates is so great, medical facilities across the country presently seek out traveling nurses to work on one-month contracts filling positions that they are otherwise unable to staff, allowing nurses to work in exciting locations across the country.

Some Benefits of a Traveling Nurse Career

In addition to getting to see the country, traveling nurses receive many benefits including insurance and free housing. The average contract is a month long, but some traveling nurses may work in a particular location for six weeks or longer, filling in for nurses who may be on leave.

Attend Nursing School & Become a Traveling Nurse

To become a traveling nurse, you will need to be an RN with at least one year of experience. And, to become an RN you must start by attending nursing school. If you enjoy taking care of people and want to see the country, becoming a traveling nurse might be a great career opportunity for you.
